Construction sites are guarded by lone officers at night, on sites that change shape every week and close without warning. The principal contractor wants to know the officer was there, patrolled the compound, checked the plant and recorded who came through the gate. BOOK ON gives the control room the Alone filter, check calls and the Monitor Location map for the officer’s welfare, patrol events and a movement trail for the compound, daily occurrence entries for the gate, and typed incident reports for theft, trespass and damage, all against the site and the shift the contractor is invoiced for.

What construction site security needs
Lone officer welfare
One officer, a dark compound and a long night. Check calls at the agreed interval from the app, the Alone filter on the live monitor and the officer’s position on the map.
Patrols of the compound
Patrols are recorded from the app with photos of what was found, and the Zig Zag Report replays the officer’s route when the contractor asks whether the plant compound was checked.
Gate records
Deliveries, contractors and visitors after hours go in the daily occurrence entries, with the time and the officer who recorded them.
Theft, trespass and damage
Typed incident reports with photos from the app, reviewed by the duty manager and sent to the contractor, the police or the insurer as PDF.
Sites that move
A new phase or a new compound is a site under the contractor in the register; the roster is copied forward and Change Site moves a shift when the gatehouse moves.
Invoices the contractor accepts
The invoice is fetched from the shifts worked, with the roster and site reports as backing, so a query about a night is answered from the book-on record.
A night on site in BOOK ON
- The officer books on at the gatehouse from the app; the live monitor shows the check-in.
- Check calls are answered at the agreed interval and listed on the Calls filter; a missed call is the controller’s prompt.
- Patrols of the compound are recorded with photos; the Patrols filter shows them against the shift.
- After-hours deliveries and visitors are recorded as daily occurrence entries.
- Anything serious, from a cut fence to a plant theft, is raised as a typed incident and reviewed on the manager dashboard.
- The officer books off; actual hours sit beside planned hours and the shift goes to timesheet, payroll and invoice.

Built around UK site security compliance
Security guarding on a construction site is a licensable activity, and every officer’s SIA licence is held and tracked. The employer’s duty to lone workers under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 is supported by check calls, the Alone filter and the position map, and evidenced with the Check Calls Log / Lone Worker report. BS 7499 expects assignment instructions, a site risk assessment and records of occurrences; the client file reports, daily occurrence entries and typed events provide them. Principal contractors working under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 ask for the same records when they review site security.

Construction site security questions
What happens if the officer misses a check call?
The gap shows on the live monitor against the shift; the controller phones the officer and follows your escalation procedure, and the Chase Up History report records it.
Does the app work on a site with poor signal?
The officer app is used on sites with poor coverage; behaviour without signal is set up with you during onboarding.
Can the contractor see the patrol record?
Patrol events export to PDF and the Zig Zag Report shows the route; operational reports cover a site and period.
How do I handle a site that closes at short notice?
Shifts are deleted or moved with Change Site, and history reports keep the audit trail of the change.
Can I run a visitor log at the gate?
After-hours arrivals are recorded as daily occurrence entries with the time and the officer; any additional gate forms are agreed during onboarding.
Is this only for large sites?
No. Pricing is per officer, and a single-officer night post uses the same app, monitor and reports.
