A construction site runs on who is on it: the gatehouse, the labour supplied to the principal contractor, the night cover and the subcontract gangs that come and go. BOOK ON records who booked on at which site and when, holds each worker’s cards and certificates with their expiry dates, keeps the lone night worker on a check call schedule, and turns the attendance into the timesheet that the client is invoiced from.

What a site team needs
Attendance by site
Workers book on and off from the app with their position recorded, so the principal contractor’s question of who was on site is answered from the record.
Cards and certificates
CSCS and CPCS cards, first aid, asbestos awareness, working at height and any other certificate held per worker with an expiry date and a report of what lapses when.
Lone and night workers
Check calls at set intervals from the app, the Alone filter on the live monitor and the position map for the gatehouse officer at 3 am.
A daily site log
Daily occurrence entries and typed reports with photos for deliveries, visitors, near misses and damage, kept against the site and the shift.
Subcontract gangs
The subcontractor register holds each supplier; their workers appear on the rota with a filter, and their hours are checked against the invoice they send you.
Hours to invoice
Pay rate and charge rate on every shift; approved timesheets become the invoice to the contractor and the payroll for the workers.
A site day, shift by shift
- The rota is planned per site with the trades and gatehouse cover needed; next week is copied forward and adjusted.
- Each worker books on at the site from the app; a no-show is visible to the site manager before the morning briefing is over.
- Cover is found by postcode and radius, filtered by the card the post needs and by transport.
- Incidents, near misses and deliveries go in as typed reports with photos; the night officer’s rounds are recorded as patrols.
- Book off closes the shift; planned against actual hours is on the timesheet the contractor is invoiced from.

Records a principal contractor asks for
Under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 the principal contractor controls access to the site and expects its labour suppliers to show who was on site, that they were competent for the work and that lone and night workers were looked after. BOOK ON’s book-on records and roster reports show attendance by site and date; the staff record shows the cards and certificates held on the day; the Check Calls Log and the Alone filter show lone worker welfare. The site risk assessment and assignment instructions sit in the client file. Card verification against the scheme’s own register is confirmed during onboarding.

Construction questions
Can BOOK ON check CSCS cards automatically?
Cards are recorded per worker with their expiry date and reported on before they lapse. Verification against the card scheme’s register is confirmed during onboarding.
Does it replace the site sign-in book?
For your own staff and subcontractors, the book-on record with time and position does. Visitor sign-in for third parties is confirmed during onboarding.
How do night gatehouse officers stay safe?
They answer check calls from the app at the interval you set, show on the Alone filter, and their position is on the map; a missed call is visible to the supervisor at once.
Can the principal contractor see the attendance?
Attendance and roster reports are produced per site and date and sent as PDF or export; a client login is confirmed during onboarding.
Does it handle CIS or self-employed workers?
Pay rates and timesheets are recorded per worker whatever their status; the tax treatment is applied in your payroll process from those figures.
